I'm really hoping someone out there can help. I've got an 8110 Pear, and I just loaded Desktop Manager 4.7 with Media Manager onto my laptop. I can see the Media Manager line but when I go into it the actual option for Media Manager is greyed out. I do not have an SD card in mine but I should still be able to transferr small files like ringtones to the phone. I've ensured that Mass Storage was enabled. What I thought was odd was that when I went to Program Files I saw no reference to the Roxio software. I uninstalled and did a Custom install to make sure that the Media Manager software was selected and got the same results. Does anyone out there have any idea what I can do to activate the Media Manager software?
Known issue especially if you had previously installed DM without media manager and then installed an upgrade with a version with media manager. Try Removing it and deleting all references related to DM and then try to put it on.
Hey thanks for the quick response. I've tried that multiple times. I even went so far as to scrub the registry of any mention of blackberry or roxio. What I thought was kind of odd was that I didn't find any references to Roxio in the registry. It's almost as if Roxio is not installing at all. I've downloaded and tried every version of DM w/ Roxio that I could find on the website with no luck. I was hoping to find just the roxio media manager software and try to install it independantly but I'm not having any luck with that either.
That's what i've done. On each of the installation attempts i would do an add/remove program then see if anything was left behind. If it was I would delete it, then I would do the custom installation ensuring that Media Manager was selected to install. After the installation I would reboot then try and connect with no luck. This last time I even went so far after the uninstall to clean the registry of any reference to blackberry and it still didn't work. I've run out of ideas as to what can be done now. It almost seem like my only option at this point is to return the Blackberry and go with another phone.
I called rim about this and they say it is known issue and they are working towards solution. You may try to contact your carrier and ask them to see if they have a workaround. Sorry I could not help you more. Do you have any other Roxio software installed btw.?
I spoke with AT&T and got the run around about it being a blackberry/rocio issue that they did not have a dog in that fight. I appreciate all of your help, and definately the quick responses. I've been wracking my brain all week to try and figure out what would be stopping it from installing/activating but I can't for the life of me figure it out. I'm hoping they come up with a fix for it soon. Oh to answer your question, no I don't have any other Roxio software loaded.
While troubleshooting this issue I tried to load the same software on two clean xp workstation and they both work ok. Clean meaning brand new install and never had any DM manager installed before.
This was a clean install but when I downloaded the software I made the initial mistake of loading the version that did not have Roxio, then I uninstalled that version and loaded the one with Roxio. That's when I saw the icon, then when I go into the Media Manager area I can see MediaSync which is available, but the Media Manager side is greyed out and I don't know what to do to activate it.
