I have had this Pearl for about a month. I am a senior and love technology but sometimes don't see the obvious.
Much of the information I was reading told to to go to "options" to do things. None of the instruction mentioned anything about "scrolling to view the rest of the icons" Spent two days looking for this icon until I spotted the very small down arrow in the bottom right of the desktop.
My problem;
I replaced the desktop picture with one of my own but there is a black background at the top and bottom of the screen. This results in having black text with a white shadow around it. This is difficult to read and I have had to go back to the original desktop. Is there a way for me to use my photo and still have a white background?

Try going to the picture you want as your background, and zooming in slightly so that the picture takes up the whole screen instead of leaving a blank space at the top and bottom of the screen. From there, set the image as your homescreen. It works for my 8100.
The only problem with this is that it will make your image slightly more pixilated, and cut off the sides of the photo due to the zoom.
I've also found you can do the same for sending pictures and setting them as contact photos.
