Welcome to the forums TannerC ![]()
The encryption is designed for security measures and I'm not sure you'll be able to recover the data. You may have to format the card and lose the data you had. You say the old phone is "dead", what do you mean? It won't turn off? you broke it in half? If it can still be recognized by the computer, you may be able to access it somehow.
Regarding the sim, is there any specific error messages you are getting with the sim?
Try to provide all the details of what is happening so that it can be easier to isolate the issues and find a fix.

Yes, using DTM you should be able to backup the contacts, calendar, etc. http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB12487
For the media card, if you plug into the computer, does it show up as a usb drive? If so, you may be able to save the data.
Normally, you would go to Options>Media Card, and set:
Encryption to "Off",
Mass Storage Mode to "On",
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode to "Yes"
If your trackball and menu buttons partially work, you can try to do this. If not, you may have to format the media card in the new phone and lose the stored files ![]()
