Well, after a rain storm Sunday evening, my BBP 8100 feel face down in a small puddle. Enough to get inbetween the keys & all, but did NOT submerge it. I tried using it right away (missed a call & text). I shook it to get the water out & place it under a hand dryer for 4 cycles.
Since then, the trackball responds & does what it wants.
I will click on an icon & its a gamble if it will open the icon or not. In text messaging, I will click once, & it opens the text, chooses reply, & chooses send all on its own. It has sent numerous blank texts already.
I took the trackball out, scraped off some lint, put it back, but yet it is still completely unreliable & acting up.
Note: I had been having the typical problems for weeks that many others are having - screen goes white, & after a few seconds, it completely reboots itself. I dunno if that has any bearing on the trackball acting up.
So, is the track ball messed up? Is it the board? Will a simple wipe & reload of the OS take care of the trackball function & make it work properly?
Thanks.

It's wet, quite simply.
Take the battery out now, let it dry for 3-5 days minimum in a bad of dry rice. Do NOT put the battery back in each to test it.

For your rebooting issue, you either have too low memory and/or a rogue third party app conflicting

If you have a Pearl 8100 (the orginal GSM one) you can change the color with a simple application called Color Pearl. It can be downloaded here:

save the files to your desktop and use the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to load the application onto your device. If you have a newer Pearl (8110, 8120, 8130) you will have to get fancy and take the trackball out of your device, get a piece of tape and color it with a marker. Stick the tape over top of the LED that sits behind the trackball and once the trackball is back in place.

huh? I didn't say anything about the color of the track ball or LED lighting up.
That was sort of right out of left field. ![]()

well, i did the battery thing, but really can't do without a phone for 3-5 days, lol (& to think, 10 years ago, half of us didn't have a phone...what in the world did we do then? lol)......
as for the rebooting, i have ample flash memory left & NO third party applications running on it

3-5 days vs. a new device or costly repairs in the least.
Well, at this point it probably is too lately anyway.
