When i click on the icon to view my text messages or email i get and error reading: Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException. this really sucks i haven't been able to view texts for a day now. how am i going keep in contact with my gf while im at school all day!?

Have you tried resetting the device yet? While the device is powered on, just take out the battery for 1 minute and replace it.  The BlackBerry will reboot itself. try it afterwards

No luck, the error even popped up after rebooting without me pressing anything...

OK. That error means that usually there's a corrupt entry in whatever screen you're trying to access (in your case your SMS messages). You may end up having to reload the OS on your phone. Before doing that though try clearing your Messages database by following these steps:

1. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
2. Click Backup and Restore, and select Advanced.
3. From the Handheld Databases list on the right side, select Messages.
4. Click Clear. Go back to the BlackBerry Desktop Manager window.

NOTE - doing so will erase all messages from your device.

i was having the same problem. i have a blackberry curve

AND THESE ARE THE STEP I TOOK TO CURE MY "Uncaught exception " ERROR

1: CLICK THE MENU SCREEN AND CLICK ON OPTIONS

2:  IN THE OPTIONS AREA I CLICK THE SECURITY OPTIONS

3: IN THE SECURITY OPTIONS I CLICK GENERAL SETTINGS

4: WHERE IT SAY PASSWORD I CHANGE FROM DISABLED TO ENABLED

5: THEN I SAVE AND EXIT ALL AREAS

6: FROM THE MAIN SCREEN TURN THE PHONE OFF

7:  WAIT 30 SECOND THEN TURN BACK ON

8: WHEN THE PHONE COMES BACK

   ENTER THE THE WRONG PASSWORD IN 10 TIMES

    THE PHONE WILL RESET AND WIPE BACK TO IT'S

    FACTORY SETTINGS

OK. Well glad that it's fixed. By the way the quickest way to wipe the device is by going to Options | Security Options | General Settings, display the menu, and choose Wipe Handheld.

hello i have the same problem, i reinstall the software versio 4.5 again, but now sometimes when im not using the celular the uncauht exception box appears i click ok and thats it but i dont understand why it shows, the most part of the time its when im trying to access the blackberry messenger but also when im not using the celular, please give me some orientation
