plug into my computer

when i hook the cord from my computer to my pearl the symbol on the phone comes on for about three seconds then goes away.. my computer never reconizes the device can anyone tell me what i need to do to fix this problem or what the problem is..........thx

Do you have Desktop Manager loaded to the PC?
