Do you use an HDMI cable with your BlackBerry PlayBook?

We got a PlayBook this Christmas and now just exploring accessories. I have only used it for FB and email and the browser so far (I use a cool browser app that I found for free).

I am deciding on a regular case or one with a stand (options are below).

I am also wondering in what scenerios I would/could use the HDMI cable?

Is it only for showing pictures or videos from the playbook on a High Def tv?

Are there any cable options for non hi-def?

Has anyone noticed if airplane tvs have input of this sort?

Anyway, it is either portfolio case or case that converts to a stand and then the HDMI cable is also in question.

Thanks.

Re: Do you use an HDMI cable with your BlackBerry PlayBook?

The HDMI port is a video port. It can handle HDMI (sound + video) or any other video stream.

That being said, indeed the best quality is to plug it to a HDMI screen or HDMI projector. If you have a screen that has no HDMI port, you can find very cheap HDMI2DVI or HDMI2VGA converters.

You need to be aware of the fact that a microHDMI-to-HDMI cable should not cost more than 7USD. Any other price includes no better quality, only branding.

Lastly, currently the BlackBerry Playbook has only a few HDMI enabled applications :
- the video application
- the pictures application

meaning that even if you are viewing an HD video in YouTube, it will be sent to the HDMI cable with a 1024x600 definition, which is not HD (1280x720 or 1920x1080).

About airplanes, I think that the screens are very low definition, like 640x480 so HDMI converted can work, but I'd rather view directly on the PlayBook screen in that case.
