A total beginner with Blackberry Playbook

Hello

Someone got me a Blackberry Playbook, I certainly accepted the gift even though I wasn't sure what one of these was!

However since i got it, I am struggling to connect to wifi?> How can i fix this problem?. I have phoned up the support line which isnt much use,

I cant get past the connecting to wifi screen?

Without me sounding stupid.

Do you need to have this playbook plugged in at home near a computer?. Or is it portable? For example, can i take this round with me anywhere i go?

Or do i need to be near a wifi connection, totally confused havent got a clue whats going on

If anyone can help me (and boy i need help :smileyhappy: )> that would be great

If someone could also tell me how the playbook works what it does? i really dont have a clue!

Re: A total beginner with Blackberry Playbook

Greetings and welcome to the community support forums!

Here are some links to help you setup and use your Playbook and learn more about it.

http://us.blackberry.com/support/tablets/playbook/get-started.html

That will help you connect to WiFi.

You don't need to be connected to a PC to use the Playbook, but if you need to be connected to the internet, you will need a Wifi connection, unless your model is a 4g model which connects over the air though a SIM card to your mobile network.

After reviewing the link above, come back and feel free to ask specific questions!

Re: A total beginner with Blackberry Playbook

Thanks for yor prompt reply, I went on the link earlier. However i just simply cant connect to wifi.

I mean i can only assume i am in an area with bad wifi coverage? not sure. i get 2 network options talk talk and aol bb.

If i go out of the house i get more networks, but still it wont connect.

Sorry to sound so daft but i havent got a clue atm

Do you have a local free open WiFi hotspot?

McDonalds and Starbucks and some local cafes or coffee shops often have free open hotspots which do not require a login or password.

Re: A total beginner with Blackberry Playbook

Or, do you have a wireless network in your house for other computers..Most other people around you that have wireless and yuou see those networks when trying to connect..are encrypted that is why you cant connect to theirs..If you have a wireless network in your house for other computers/laptops you may have. then if yours is encrypted, you should know the password to get into your wifi network. As previously stated, you must be near an OPEN (unencrypted) wifi network, whether it be at home or at a local coffee shop etc which has one..When setting up your playbook, you should be connected to a power source so your battery does not run out while setting up...
