Android applications request all access rights?

Any repackaged android application I install on my PB requests all permissions.

When I install an Android repackaged application on the Playbook the system tells me, that I am able to later decide what permissions I give to an application.

However, none of the android applications appear under security in the playbook.

I also posted this question here:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-playbook-discussion/263237-all-android-apps-pb-request-all-a...

I found out, that the Android security model does not permit to change permisssions on an already application. Either you  deny installation, or, you have to accept it.

Does anyone know how this exactly is supposed to behave ?

My best/worst guess is, that if an android repackaged application is lauchend, the runtime itself requests all permission, regardless of what the application might need.

is this correct ?

If yes, the message the playbook displays that I am able to later change the access permissions of the application should be corrected.

I only have a few sideloaded apps and I don't remember any of them asking for permission.  Without wiping my Playbook I probably can't re-test them.

Do you have an example,  and the location of the .bar file?

The Android "Player" may have limited access anyway.

I did without knowing installed yesterday a program that was android from the AppWorld (Package Tracker Pro), and it did ask for permission to access WIFI, and files, but this program does not show up in the Security page of the Playbook settings

Re: Android applications request all access rights?

Sideload pinball from goodereader, no permissions.

Install the update which comes from bb world, asks permission.

I did notice the goodereader playbook section is now "BB10 and Playbook. "

Re: Android applications request all access rights?

If you sideload an application there will be no asking about what the application is able to do. You only will be asked I you install something from AppWorld.

Re: Android applications request all access rights?

Apologies, when you said repackaged android I assumed you meant converted bar files.

Ok all I can say is you are correct, apps from app world which are derived from android do ask for permissions but you can't modify them afterwards. It can only be an error by the designers of the android player.

Bb10 will of course be perfect.

Re: Android applications request all access rights?

Thanks.

Good to know.

I patiently wait for BB10 on playbook.
