So if we register the wi-fi somewhere where its free we wouldnt have to worry about the wi-fi connection here at home? Do you need the wi-fi to upload apps?
Really appreciate your help people.

Getting it registered somewhere free just gets yiu past that first obstacle. Without wifi at home you will have no email, no internet, no app downloads, in fact no internet presence at home unless you can bridge to a blackberry phone which is expensive.
You need the SSID (wifi name) and wifi password for the aol router. I am guessing that you have no other wifi connected computers at home? What is the model of router, maybe someone can help you set it up if necessary.
Are you UK, USA, Canada...?

Well just rang AOL and he seemed to think that because the LAN doesnt light up when you connect an Ethernet cable that that is the problem but we used another Etherenet cable and still wont light up any ideas?

Ethernet cable from where to where? There are no cables needed between playbook and aol router. Pleasd give the router model and country info I asked for. Also have you found the SSID and wifi pass key yet?

So, do you have a desktop PC?
Or is your Laptop hardwired to the internet and feeding your Wifi router?

We have a laptop with a AOL modem but we are wireless. Just on the back of the modem it says wi-fi certified and wi-fi protection set up.
Do we need this LAN light on to get wi-fi? So confused!

@JS, FYI In the UK all ADSL broadband is twin copper phone line to combined modem/router then ethernet or wifi to laptop. We don't tend to have separate modem and router except very rare old cable installations, or very new fibre setups. This router modem is of the standard UK ADSL type.
@Alanandnicky, no the lan light only comes on if you connect by ethernet cable. If you are truly wireless only the antenna symbol will light. It worries me that you even tried a cable as well.
You must have a wifi password or else the neighbours will have free broadband. You only need two things to connect your playbook
I just googled that huawei router and got a full user manual. It's all in there.
