I guess RIM in the contract with majors, and with carrier, have the obligation to provide the BlackBerry users with localized services (especially the podcasts, 7Digital and the video store).
Why does Amazon US forbid me to buy mp3s ? Because they force me to buy them on Amazon France.
Why are DVD linked to a zone? because it is the way majors use to enforce the law (= taxes are paid with the ratio corresponding to the zone), or to enforce availability (ie a movie is available online in a given country 6 months before the other countries).
