I want to share some findings with you in case this helps someone else in future. I tried to charge my PlayBook with the HP TouchPad USB plug (barrel type) and it works perfectly fine (Green lightning bolt icon appears - no errors). So if you want a cheap way to charge your PlayBook, buy one of these.
Here are the specs of both charger types:
BlackBerry Rapid Charger (the one with fold out prongs and ships with the device):
Input: 100-240V - 300mA 50-60Hz
Output: 5V - 1.8A
HP TouchPad Barrel Charger:
Input:100-240V - 0.4A 50-60Hz
Output: 5.3V - 2A
The benefit of using the TouchPad charger is that the cable comes off so you can use a normal charging micro USB cable bought from Monoprice.com for $1.73 and you can get a lot longer cord (in this case 15 feet). http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&forma
You could spend $38.99 on a genuine BB replacement or $6.72 (devices bought seperately - not including shipping charges though) for one that has a 15 foot cord, is multi-use and comes apart...

I'd recommend for anyone to get the magnetic rapid charger and leave the more fragile USB port to data transfer.
$25USD, and sometimes as low as $20 according to the seller.

I want to get a magnetic charger myself for this reason, but they are $79.99 here in Canada at the moment.
Same with BestBuy...
And on Amazon.ca they are $47.33 or higher: http://www.amazon.ca/Travel-Charger-Version-Blackb
Or on Crackberry they're $44.95: http://ca.crackberry.com/blackberry-rapid-wall-cha
Or in a nutshell, I could buy 11.9 (I'll round up to 12 for simplicity) of my $6.72 Frankenchargers for the price of one magnetic charger at full retail!
I'm rockin the BlackBerry Passport, Z30, Z10, Q10, BlackBerry Mini Stereo Speaker, 64 gig PlayBook, BlackBerry Wireless Headset HS-700

i went through a few of the usb chargers, kids kept ripping them out making the charger open up and not charge the PlayBook.
I now have 2 magnetic chargers and my issue is gone and they can rip them off with out harm

One day, things will be cheap enough for me to "intelligently" buy a magnetic charger and it's on my Christmas list for sure...but right now, the prices are insane.
Another benefit of the Frankencharger is that the HP Barrel charger actually screws apart and you can buy European plug sockets which interchange with it that will let you charge your PlayBook overseas! Oh, by the way, the prongs fold up too like the genuine BB charger.
For those of us without kids or animals - this seems like a smart buy in my opinion.
