lately whenever my Playbook goes into Standby the display will not start up. It requires a Restart, which itself requires numerous attempts, pushing the buttons several times. I've deleted my most recently added apps, no change. The PlayBook continues to receive emails in standby, the display is just messed up when I try to restart.

Have you tried a hard reset of the playbook?
Hold down the volume up key, volume down key, and power button at the same time and hold it for about 15 seconds. TIP: Its easier if you hit the volume up key then the volume down key and then the power key.
I'm hoping the hard reset will fix it but you could have a hardware problem too. Give the hard reset a try though.
