Downloading DVD's to the PlayBook and issues with DRM

Just got my Playbook.  Love it!!

My issue is I can not get my DVD's to play.  I have a few DVD's with the Digital copy's and I loaded on to my PC both with and without iTunes...  but none of them will run on the Playbook and I get the DRM message..  but if I bought the DVD and they gave me the free digital copy...  Why will it not work?   I do not have a lot of time to spend hours converting movies...  This issue just seems like it should be easier to fix...  I mean I paid for the rights to the movie.....

Help Please... :Helpsmilie:

What format are they in?

try using handbrake to convert to MP4, also there are ways to convert MKV to MP4 very fast by removing the container with ffmpeg

look at this thread for more info

well it's a case where you have to pay twice to get the right to watch the movie.

Back when the movie industry realized that people could make perfect copy of DVDs, they created the DRM. They say it is to protect the content creators, but in the end it simply punishes the people who buy those movies, and rewards the people who don't (= the pirates).

Let me explain.

On your DVD case, when the seller gave you that "free digital copy", there should be sone small prints that explain you why DRM are good, and that you will be able to view your digital copy on a player that is compatible with that DRM.

The problem is that, for a player to be compatible with that DRM, the maker of that player has to buy the right to read those DRMs. And the money they spend doing so is, later taken back to the end-user, you.

That is the reason why when you buy a movie on iTunes, you can view it only on a device that has paid the price to be able to view DRMs (Apple iPod and Apple iPhone and Apple iPad obviously).

For instance my neighbour, who bought some music on iTunes, need to burn the songs to a CD, then rip the CD into regular MP3 files.

And it's the same on the Microsoft market place.

*****

That being said, when I buy a DVD but want to view it on my BlackBerry Storm, I simply download a pirate copy on the internet (I live in France so downloading pirate copies is not forbidden, but sharing them is, and owning a pirate copy is allowed as long as I have bought the DVD).

Re: Downloading DVD's to the PlayBook and issues with DRM

Microsoft Security pops up and warns me that the DVD Ripper software has been reported as a security risk. Is this assessment accurate?

Re: Downloading DVD's to the PlayBook and issues with DRM

No, it's not, Big companies like Microsoft and Apple are afraid to get involved in lawsuits about infringement, so they always try to avoid any risks about dvd decoding thing, you can find it hard to upload your ripped videos to itunes as well.

If you download the ripper from official website like download.cnet or their official website, i think they are safe

Re: Downloading DVD's to the PlayBook and issues with DRM

"dvd shrink" breaks the encryption and extracts the movie. When will they learn digital information will always be free. Sopa will do nothing but create an internet of endless mirrors... Did wikileaks teach them nothing.
