None of you so far have mentioned the information about Skype on smartphone, Skype not on Playbook. Which, as you are aware, means on OS 6 and maybe OS 7, but not on QNX. If RIM is going to QNX on everything, then what?

Given that today's news mentions that the Blackberry is falling in popularity in Canada, then it is simply up to RIM to deal with Skype (Microsoft) to see what can be done. It might mean spending some money! The only way to have a developer work on what we need.

As the original poster stated he wants it for chat, not video chat so just do a google search for skype.bAr and you should be able to download it and sideload the application.
I wouldn't do what mr johanson said he is just a little disgruntal about the playbook.

That is incorrect, Verizon has it on some phones.

Skype was at BBJam last week. Lets hope they are going to do something on BB10.

Also Skype is in HTML5 on face book so maybe they will make it for any device that supports HTML5 in the future.

You should also goto skype forums and ask for Skype on playbook, they have a list of people that want it. adding more might convince them more.
