Gps. Hmmm.

I purchased the Playbook for three reasons.

1. Value.

Here in the UK the 64gb dropped form £552 to £129. Its a great tablet at that price.

2. ebooks.

Kobo is useless so have purchased an ereader for £1.00. excellent

3. Sat Nav.

I originally tried the free OsmAnd. But after reading comments form members splashed out on the paid version of Magellan. Very disappointed. No 3D on travel. Cannot set left hand drive for UK. Not user friendly. Cannot be used spontaneously. A destination must be set whilst using a wifi and then download the area covering the route. There was no free trial version of Magellan. Feel conned, not by members, but by Magellan.

Changed back to the free Osmand. Will get used to it then purchase the paid version when I need more maps

Hope this helps

I second this. $4.99 and worth every cent. The latest version is 3.1.2 as of Oct 20/2012. Much faster than before.

One thing to note: The PlayBook does take a long time to initially get a locked GPS signal for the first time but once connected, future connections take only a minute. This is not a fault of the Magellan GPS App but a weakness in the GPS device itself built into the tablet. GPS locks will not happen in a basement. I'd take your tablet outside with you and walk around your yard until it connects for the first time. Mine worked on the main level of my house. I initially thought it was broken because it took so long, but doing Google searches, I found out this is common.

Like anything though, do your research and read reviews before buying. Go to YouTube and watch videos of it in action. Go to Crackberry.com and check their forums, you will see lots of users who have this app.

It might not be for everyone but I love it and works well here in Canada.

Re: GPS APP

Once the PlayBook is updated to BB10, our offline gps app will be available to try for free for 7 days.

It's already out for the z10.

I'll provide more info info if anyone is interested in trying it out.

I work for Mireo and I'm here to answer any questions about our GPS navigation app for BB.

Looking at the app. It does look great. http://www.mireo.hr/en/

I have downloaded it on my Nexus 7. Brilliant. Can't wait for the Playbook version.

Well done.

Re: GPS APP

I tried various GPS apps on the PlayBook.  For now I suggest you stick to OSMAND. For all its flaws I find it the best off line GPS app for now.

Also search for GPS/navigation on this board. More info there.

Mireo has some serious potential. When BB OS 10 comes, I'm buying this...

Watch this awesome video review from BlackBerry OS (10 mins but worth every minute).
