HELP for PLAYBOOK Screen Freeze

Got a Playbook over the holidays and it was working awesome for a week or so then the screen started to freeze when opening applications, including on start-up. First it happened once in a while when opening up b;lackberry applications, email, news etc... now it seems that it is happening multiple times per day. Read about the soft reset on the forum; (start button and volume up&down simultaneously) on forum and it usually gets it booted up again but sometimes it will get hung-up on the reboot.

There must be and update to fix this?????

Re: HELP for PLAYBOOK Screen Freeze

The freeze happens primarily when I start up the app and happens more often than not with the apps that came with the Playbook.

The messages, contacts and calendar apps will quite frequently get hung up. I sometimes have to reset more than once as the OS will get stalled on the wavy bubbles colour screensaver that appears when the OS boots up. (I once let it do it's thing for almost 20 minutes before hitting the reset).

I have deduced that the freezes are more porne to happening when I don't have a wireles connection or immediately after I connect at a new hotspot. It seems to be better when I turn wireless off when I know I'm not within range of a hotspot; howver NFS undercover has also stalled more than once upon opening the app.

When it freezes I can usually lock the device or put it in sleep mode and when it awakens the unclock screen appears but when I enter my password it returns to the screen freeze. If I do a restart in the soft reset it will get hung up on the wavy bubble screen and never actually start. The only way I can get it to reboot is a hard reset... holding the power button down for an extended period of time.

Re: HELP for PLAYBOOK Screen Freeze

1) how much free memory do you have ?

2) I suggest you to turn off the WiFi antenna when you turn your device off. Upon turning it on, with the WiFi off, does it still freeze ?

3) I also suggest you to go in the Wifi options, go to the WiFi profiles, delete everything, reboot the playbook, then set the Wifi profile you have at home. It can make things better too.
