If you don't have a Blackberry phone to bridge to, you can log in to hotmail, or Yahoo Mail, or most any on line email site to use your email. There are on line calander, and database services that are free. Gmail is one that I like.
The Playbook is supposed to be able to be Bluetooth tethered to a phone for internet access. The phone will have to have the Bluetooth tether option. Otherwise you would need to use WiFi to have the Playbook work on line.
The idea of the bridge mode with the Playbook is to make it compliment as part of the Blackberry phone with a lot of enhancements. This saves the cost of having to have a separate data plan for a tablet. The bridge mode allows the Playbook to share the data plan with the phone. For even greater efficiency the Playbook can be Bluetooth tethered using the phone as a modem. At the same time it can be working with bridge features.
We have a number of Playbook tablets in our family. I also work at some places that use these tablets They are all using them with the Blackberry phone. It's very rare I have ever head any complaints about this tablet, other than the issue with the spell correction with using the bridge email.
