The message indicator on the upper left sideof the screen indicates I have 2 messages (numeral 2 showing). But everything has been read and cleared on my bb and through the bridge messaging. How do I clear this?

Try restating the PB first... touch the battery icon > Restart.

I even went one better and "Shutdown" (after first trying "Restart"). Message indicator still showing "2" while I have no unread messages.

I would take a screenshot but holding down the volume buttons doesn't do anything for me.

Well... you really might have two messages somewhere.

Message indicator on my bb is at zero. Reconciled the BB device, no unread emails on my laptop, Scratching my head but not finding anywhere where I have an unread message.

I had some messages burried deep in a subfolder, I ended up marking everthing in my mailbox read to clear it.

Tried that and did a search on my BB via "unread" messages (which came up with zero listings)... still rather perplexing.

Update:  Getting worse. Now I have a big "3" message indicator and again no unread messages in any or all folders connected to the device. 

I did get a text message that shows up in my BlackBerry Bold message box, which I read and replied to, but that doesn't show up on my Playbook. Could these be causing an issue? 

This is getting a tad annoying since now I don't know if I have a new message or not.

Try this: The left pane can slide downward. Sometimes I see messages hiding above the visible portion of the screen. Swipe down tl make them visible.
