My screen went dead...well sort off

All of a sudden my screen decided to die. Well it still does something...it shows intermittend vertical lines when holding the Playbook in landscape orientation. Looks like a faded barcode.

 

Funny thing is, if I connect the Playbook to my HDMI TV, I get a picture. The Playbook is also still touch sensitive.

 

Any idea what it could be? If it is just about a lose connection a repair might be worth it. Otherwise it likely good for the bin.

 

Anyway, does anyone know who is providing repair services for the Playbook in Malta?

Hi mwille64,

Just in case try to Security Wipe your PlayBook. Also try to upload OS with BlackBerry Desktop Software. There is a remote chance that this is software issue.

I actually did a security wipe and after that somehow the Playbook seems to have switched back to an older OS version. The screen came back alive and I thought it was just caused by an OS crash. But after upgrading the OS and restoring my backups, sure enough the screen went crazy again after a day or two.

 

After that any security wipe failed to get the screen back. I noticed that the Playbook now starts an OS update as part of the initial configuration, hence I'm automatically back to the latest OS.

 

Are there somewhere some instructions on how to downgrade the Playbook OS to the original release?
