You can post a picture here... see this link:

Ignore step #1,. and go to #2

But I believe you, it's just that it is hard to believe.

Re: PB Power up problem

[ Edited ]

He sent me the photos in email so I'm posting them, with his permission.

My interpretation: the "case" involved is actually a typical after-market case which the PlayBook appears to have been glued into in some fashion, which is why he had to rip it off.  The first image shows (I believe) the actual rear of the PlayBook, with portions of the case material still attached where it was glued, and some special "grommet" thing for the camera also attached.  The second image is one he took on my request to show the actual connector area.

The bottom (not back) of the PlayBook itself is still covered by some of the case material, so with that removed he should be able to see the serial number next to the HDMI port (assuming it's not glued there as well, such that removing the plastic removes the serial number as well).

Re: PB Power up problem

Oh my word Peter!

I'm not sure how you even managed to plug anything cables in and I have never been able to use the docking station with the case on, so I'm not surprised you are having so many problems.

Also unfortunately the serial number is under the casing which is still on the bottom edge of the PB as your picture shows. It is an engraved number, so if you can get the rest of the casing off, you should see it.

As JS Sanders mentioned, that is definitely. Not standard issue from RIM and there is no reason to glue the case on, except to hide the SN.

I hope you sort everything out !

aaliceinw, please note that those are not my pictures. I was merely posting them for strathdee.

Who glues a PlayBook into an exterior case? That's crazy! There is something fishy about this device. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a stolen, damaged or demo device and you unfortunately ended up being taken for your money.

Re: PB Power up problem

It was manufactured poorly, they eventually acknowledged the problem and replaced the unit with one that works fine - end of story
