I read an article on pcmag.com indicating that netflix has no plans to affiliate with rim.

Please see the multiple other posts regarding Netflix on the PlayBook where it has been stated that Netflix has no plans to develop for the PlayBook at this time.

No amount of ranting will change this until such time as Netflix (not RIM) decide to develop the app. Maybe RIM could pay them to do it if they felt that was necessary, or not. In the end it's up to Netflix and so far they've said No.

Personally I have no interest in Netflix.. If I wanted it that bad, get it on your TV screen and watch a movie (which is probalby 7years old anyway... from what I see most of the movies on there are free on the television Movie channels anyway or elsewhere on the net..

Well the millions upon millions of Netflix subscribers think its a great app.
Aside from the limited selection of new content in Canada, it has a rather large selection of children's programming that in my opinion is vastly superior to todays children's shows on television.
Also the convenience of legally being able to watch these shows as opposed to being a pirate lets me teach our children not to be THEIVES. Whether it be a show/movie or an application, STEALING IS STEALING and without any other viable option in Canada for streaming, our playbook is sitting on the shelf waiting for Netflix and Skype and a few others

If all you bought your PB for was to watch movies and make phone calls, why did you bother buying it as you must have known that PB doesnt support either.... why not just buy a TV and Xbox or whatever and a telephone..

Considering that your contribution to this thread basically consisted of you saying that you don't like/want/need Netflix, that's no great loss.

The actual concern is that Netflix, subscribe to it or not, develops clients for almost every other tablet out there, along with a pile of media devices and game consoles. If someone owns a PlayBook it's reasonable for them to want to use it to watch Netflix. The fact that Netflix has refused to develop a client is frustrating to many people as a result. The same could be said for Skype. The lack of an app is frustrating since the PlayBook would be a good device for this purpose.

Of course, if someone bought a PlayBook solely for the purpose of watching Netflix or using Skype without checking to see if there was an app available then yes, they should have done their homework before buying, but rather then buying an XBox or media device, they should have probably bought a different tablet. I don't think anyone is asking about Netflix on non-tablet devices in this thread.

It would just make it more convenient.
Wifi is nice but we have laptops and computers in the house. Out and about we have wifi on our iPhones that works fine.
If they had at least one of the apps that users wanted on here, then they would use it more, then if they used it more, other people would see them use it more, then those people would buy more playbooks and the cycle continues.
No advertising would be needed just word of mouth.
This model is based on exactly how the internet really grew exponentially. Users liked email, more users showed up online, this begat online porn, which then begat online transactions, which then begat online banking etc.... All started because of a simple convenience an exploded.
Make a user want to take it with them somewhere and brag about it to others who want to do the same thing.

You know what's worse, even the kindle fire has a netflix app.  Apparently RIM must of angered someone at netflix. 

And also the apparently. Pissed someone off at Amazon as well since you can no longer stream videos from them.  Way to go RIM.

Even if the Playbook had a Netflix app I wonder how well it would work. I can watch netflix on my PC and get a fulll selection..search for the same show om my Samsung BR player and it isn't there!  No such title in the library.

The Player is only 18 months old and they can't even support it. netflix admits they have a problem. been like that for months.

I could see them same problem happening with a Playbook app. You would get 50% of everything they had.

I called netflix and they said they have been trying to get blackberry to enable netflix on their devices for a year. However blackberry has not agreed to anything from their end. Scratching my head...why not!
