PB has died and I need to return it ...but how?

My one year warranty is almost up and my PB has recently died. There is no power whatsoever.  I have tried (in vain) to contact blackberry support and playbook support to find out how I return my PB to either have it fixed or replaced.  I have emailed help@rim.com just a few minutes ago too and am waiting for them to respond. Hopefully they won't tell me to buzz off as the other two "help" desks did.

Has anyone had to return their PB to RIM? If so, how did you do that and can you direct me to where the details are on doing that?

Help is greatly appreciated.

Re: PB has died and I need to return it ...but how?

Call your Canadian PlayBook support number.

Canada Toll Free: 1-877-644-8405

Likely, the battery is extremely drained and needs charging.

  • LEAVE it connected to the wall outlet charger (not the USB > PC charger).
  • Leave it connected for 24 hours... every 3-5 hours, press and hold the power button only for about 20 seconds. Eventually it will boot on up, but first must reach a certain charge level.
  • You will see the blinking red and perhaps yellowish LED light, and perhaps a symbol on screen of "no battery". That means the battery is drained, but it must reach a certain charge before powering on.

Email "help@rim.com" is a dead end, it only directly you back here and other options such as calling your mobile provider support, which does not apply to the Playbook.

How do you know it is not the battery?

Re: PB has died and I need to return it ...but how?

because it was working fine when I plugged it in to charge before I left for vacation.  It was charging all day and seemingly working fine. Then when I unplugged it to pack it in my carry-on bag it just died. I brought it to Best Buy to make sure it wasn't just my connection and they hooked it up to three different chargers and there was no activity, not even a light. If it is just a battery, then my battery is toast.

Re: PB has died and I need to return it ...but how?

It's the battery dead, I can say with almost 99% certainty.

If you followed my directions above there's a good chance you'll revive it. There are many threads here on this very same exact issue.

All the same, call your support number, they can help you also.

Re: PB has died and I need to return it ...but how?

I will certainly try. I have a lot of pics and stuff on it so I would LOVE it if it was just the battery.

Thanks so much for your help.

Re: PB has died and I need to return it ...but how?

Sure. Follow what I said above, using the OEM charger which came with it. After several hours, press and hold the power button only for 20+ seconds, and note if you see any red LED light at the upper bezel. If not, continue charging.
