PlayBook Set Up Problem

Okay, so the Playbook (Non-retail) that I bought has Tablet OS 1.0.0.0. It was wiped and sent to me so now I am trying to set it up as a new device.

I turn it on, connect to WiFi okay and begin to download the software update.

It says:
Downoading Update
Blackberry Tablet OS
Version 1.0.3.1868

Then there is the progress bar, it will download a couple of MB and then jump to 222MB (of 277MB).

It appears to continue to download the rest and continues to the install part.

It will start to install okay, until 22% when it give the following error:

Unable to Install
Blackberry Tablet OS
Version 1.0.0.0

With a restart button underneath.

When I restart it, it boots up, the first screen it give me says:
Retry Installation
Blackberry Tablet OS
Version 1.0.0.0

Sorry, but there was a problem updating your tablet.
Tap Retry now or Turn Off to try again later.

Then it has a Turn Off and Retry button.

So then the process starts again with the weird downloading bit!

Any suggestions?

You can try updating the PlayBook through a Pc with Desktop Manager. Plug it in while it is off and Desktop Manager is open and a pop up box that says "upgrade" should appear. Click upgrade and it should re-install the O/S.

The problem is that it hasn't even been through the initial setup yet, so when I plug it into the DM it tells me to disconnect and follow the on-screen instructions to set it up (but in order to finish the setup I need to do a software update!)

If you plug it in while it is turned off and Desktop Software is open, it should come up with a screen saying it does not recognise the device but on that window will be an option to upgrade. It only appears for a brief moment so you need to watch the PC screen while plugging it in and quickly click update. Try that.

I'm afraid I don't get any window like that, the first screen that comes up simply says "Device Setup Incomplete".

Any other ideas?

That is the only solution I can think of. Maybe you should call the tech support since you have the free 90 days and see what they recommend. Good luck.

Does anyone else have any ideas? Maybe there is a way of doing a factory reset without being able to access the settings?
