PlayBook not activating error (2012)

Got my Playbook today and no luck getting past the Software Update screen. No issue getting through the initial setup, but every time it looks for the software update I get the following error:

 

Retry Activation. Your tablet could not be activated because of error (2012). Tap Retry now or Turn Off to try again later.

 

I have re-tried a few times with the same result. I thought it may be the wireless connection, but during the initial setup, I was able to enter my blackberry ID and password successfully. My router also shows me connected.

 

Anybody know what the (2012) error is all about, or how to fix this issue?

Hello bcalgary and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

 

Hold down your power key to power off your PlayBook. Plug your PlayBook into a wall power source for about 5-15 minutes (it might power back on, this is normal) and after the elapsed time, try the update again.

 

If the error still persists, call the support number that came with your PlayBook for further investigation.

Thank you hmthepirate. I tried your suggestion and I still get a similiar result. This time, at the Software Update screen, I recieve the following error:

 

Could not activate this tablet. (2012)

Problem regidtering with Provisioning.

RESTART

 

I will give support a call to see what they say.

I've received the same error message with my new PlayBook, and have tried the same suggestion without success. Any additional suggestions or fixes?

I have an open case with blackberry support so I will post when I have a fix. They couldn't figure it out either, but are going to call me later with an update. The case was being escalated to second level support. Bummer!

Unfortunately, no. They had me fully charge the unit for 12 hours with no success. Still working on it.

I could not wait for a resolution, so I exchanged my Playbook for a new one today. New Playbook works perfectly. I have asked RIM to explain the 2012 error and how to resolve. Not sure if they will, but I will post if and when they do.

So here is the solution according to RIM support:

"The 2012 error on the device you were getting is simply an OS error and that the fix for it would be to upgrade the PlayBook software through the BlackBerry Desktop software. Thanks again for contacting BlackBerry Technical Support."

Hi All

 

I have the same problem with my PB. Tried everything but still no luck. i keep getting the 2012 error.

The PB is fully charged, i connected it to Desktop Manager, did the update. Restarted and..

same error.

Any other thougts ??
