I purchased a Blackberry PlayBook in late January 2013 and did very little with it until the HDMI cable and the book "BlackBerry Playbook Companion" that I had ordered arrived.
I tried all the features as I progressed through the book and everything worked as intended except for one thing. Although file transfers and backups worked fine using Blackberry Desktop Software and the supplied USB cable it will not charge from my computer (Dell Inspiron i5 running Windows 7 & Playbook OS 2.1). The playbook displays the message "Unable to charge battery with connected source" when connected to my computer.
The external USB charger that came with the Playbook charges the unit with no problems.
Even though the supplied cable did data transfers fine do you think the cable might still be bad? Will any standard USB to micro USB work with the Playbook?

Please ignore my inquiry. According to the manual the newer Playbooks with the ver 2+ operating systems will not charge from a computer.

mine will charge from a PC, but not on all PCs
it depends if your PC can handle the current needed to charge it
with playbook off, it should charge on most PCs slowly
