Playbook Existing Functionality Peeves

There are many things I liked about the Playbook, even over the iPad.  But the design (or lack thereof) of some of the functionalities are indeed annoying.  Almost enough for me to think about a Galaxy or iPad: -

1. Default Songs/Videos - There is no way to delete these!  This is especially so with those annoying sample songs.   and it is infuriating to hear them popping up when playing 'all songs'.

2. Browser Issues - including regular sudden crashing (closes by itself while loading page), unstabel page flickering, page loaded content suddenly disappeared after page loading completed

3. Browser Pause - prevents multi-tasking of open applications.  The Browser stops when one tries to go to other opened applications at hte same time.  For example, it stops loading a page if I decided to 'flip' over to checkthe in-built Weather or Kobo.  But more annoying is when I want to hear a You Tube music.  It just stops playing when I want to have the music but read Kobo at the same time.  This makes 'Multi-Application' claim a joke.

4.  'Spooling' Opened Applications - Why is this not continuous?  If I have 3 applications opened and go from #1 to #2 and then #3, to get back to #1, I have to spool backwards pass #2 instead of all other tablets that allows a continuous loop.

5.  Browser Favourites Ordering - Does not allow one to sort the order of the assigned shortcuts

7.  On/Off button - Can you make it any harder to activate that button?  Not responsive and no tactile design.  Makes the buttons of a 1980 Ford Taurus feels like a German design.

Re: Playbook Existing Functionality Peeves

Good improvement overall and especially happy that now I can delete the stupid horrendous default song under Music tab.

But I have problem setting up my Rogers email account (maybe Rogers is overloaded).  But I cannot re-sort the order of the Web Browser webpages icons.

Also, I love the new 'key-pad' with the row of numbers at the top but how come this new keypad does not show up as default and on certain entry, the old keypad came up?

The remote BB Control from BB Torch is cute touch but yet to figure its full efficiency.  Yes, I can now use the Torch key pad (much preferred) but i have to look at 2 screens?

Will continue to acces but the Rogers account and the webpages are bummers.

New OS 2 Anomalies

This is not about how to better iPad or other Androids tablets but some puzzling anomalies.

My service provider is Rogers in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

1.  Where has the BB Bridge Browser button gone?  Looked up BB Bridge Help in Playbook and it mentioned that one can hide or show particular BB Bridge icons by customizing setting thru my BB Torch BB Bridge Device Properties.  However, the Device Properties does not have the BB Bridge Browser.  OTOH, under the Playbook HELP -  'About BB Bridge', it clearly showed an icon for BB Bridge Browser.

2.  Cannot set up Rogers email account.  It says "The server imap.mail.yahoo.com is not responding?

3. Still cannot sort Browser bookmarks

4. The new touch screen keypad with the extra numeric keys at the top is a brilliant touch.  However, this new keypad only shows up when entering 'Passwords' and not under normal typing when the old keypad is shown.

5.  No easy way to export pictures from my Torch to the Playbook.

Overall, noticeable improvements but the packaging and logistic design can do with a bit more polishing and consistency.  People talk and notice less about what is great and more about what doesn't work, especially when RIM tries to do catch up.

All the best.

Re: Playbook Existing Functionality Peeves

I agree, so far the new 2.0 has done little to fix allot of the dysfunctionality of the playbook. Can we please have a stupid home page button on the browser?
The default keyboard should match the password keyboard.... Why would you make two different defaults? That is just stupid.
My biggest two annoyances are that I still can't delete the lame default apps off the desktop, and that most of my standard apps that work on my blackberry phone don't work on my playbook. Hello Spell Check?
So far, I have a $299 big screen for my bb phone. It's been a total waste of money, and 2.0 hasn't changed my opinion on that. Our IT group was comptiplating buying a BB exchange server and purchasing 85 playbooks and BB smart phones to deploy across our organization. Thanks to my input, it now appears that Apple will be getting that business.

Re: Playbook Existing Functionality Peeves

You might want to reconsider - the iPad's browser doesn't have a home button either.

Re: Playbook Existing Functionality Peeves

Yes, but you mus understand.  If RIM does not have a home button, it is a major fail.  If Apple does not have one, it is the way thing should be, because, after all, they cannot make a mistake.

Re: Playbook Existing Functionality Peeves

Come on guys, out of that you pick a minor issue like the home button to defend RIM"s poor project plqnning and execution. Look, RIMs problem isn't technology.. They can have great technology. The bottom line is that in their rush to join the tablet market, they released a piece of **bleep** that can't even do what my BB Bold can do. That's poor planning and the reason RIM had to write off almost half a million dollars in unsold tablets when their competitors sales were going up.

Re: Playbook Existing Functionality Peeves

I'm sick and tired of people, here, picking up anything that they can find and calling it a mojor sisaster.

"I bought my Playbook because I wanted it to run androd App X, or because it thought iy would have button Y, or, it should scroll on an angle, and of course, I did not buy an Android or Apple unit because, well I did not bother to find out, but RIM now needs to correct this situation" because it's their fault.
