Re: Playbook = Professional Grade Blackberry "Gameboy"??

As a note, with the update .1868, RIM was very explicit to state what was included in the upgrade. Video Chat. It was no secret.

So.

Re: Playbook = Professional Grade Blackberry "Gameboy"??

Every BB device I've owned in the past has been solid, worked right out of the box and turned out to be very reliable over the long haul.  The Playbook, as everyone seems to agree, is a solid piece of hardware.  But as we all know, the software is not up to the usual BB standard.  It follows then that we're being used as beta-testers.  Since we're beta-testers, there needs to be a feedback loop to ensure the beta issues get sorted out.  A change log is a huge part of that.

RIM is living in denial, hoping that they can fix all the problems before the stock market fixes them instead.  I think they have two choices... one, pull a fully-baked OS upgrade out of their a$$ very soon and stop the bleeding, or two; open up to the user community in an honest and forthright manner and at least appear interested in getting help from everyone to get this product to where it really should have been when it went on sale.

Re: Playbook = Professional Grade Blackberry "Gameboy"

this is a peer to peer forum, not a Rim to peer forum. i dont recall a promise of out of the box PIM support or android support. there is a lot coming soon and i cant wait to be a part of it.

what with a new OS can you expect? ipad had less apps on launch day and we are getting andriod apps on top of all the RIM apps. give a lil time and you will have best of both worlds.

so far the hardware has been awesome and app world has been improved by 10 fold

hope to see you around for it

Re: Playbook = Professional Grade Blackberry "Gameboy"

I suppose the problem is that being impatient gadget types, we want all of it now :smileyhappy:

I would just like to add that although it is great that RIM announced all of these upcoming features at BBW, what some of the upset folk here want to see are answers to the issues that we are experiencing now:

Spotty wifi on some networks
autocomplete / spelling etc
Smoother keyboard
decent pdf and ebook reader
etc

This issues do not seem to be addressed publicly and I think this is where the 'secretive' aspect comes from.

It is great that RIM seem to think that fortnightly updates are the way to go. At least we can look forward to regular improvements. I love my PlayBook and as a tech junkie cannot wait to see what is in the next update.

Considering this was turned into a real device from nothing in just over 6 months, it really is incredible how good this device is. I believe that it took Apple a lot longer to develop iOS, and that delivered at lot less at launch than the PlayBook does now.

The way I see it, the only way is up :smileyhappy:
