No, don't try to turn it on, let it charge. When it is deeply drained at less than 3%, it can take several hours to reach a usable state.

The key here is patience. Let is charge for several hours... 24 hours. Every 4-5 hours, WITH the charger still connected, press and hold the power button alone for about 20 seconds.

I have the same problem, no light and no charge.
Should I use the charger provided with the Playbook or the docking fast one?

Try the rapid charger first... and then the other.

I have found a solution for my problem :
I have cleaned the charging pod connector and the Playbook magnetic connector with rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip.
When I replaced the Playbook on the charging pod, the red light came on with the empty battery icon on screen then the green light flashed for a couple of times. My battery was at 0% charge.
The date on the Playbook is now set to April (it probably lost track of time) and my battery is still on charge.
