Re: Playbook won't boot after upgrade to v2

If your device is totally not functioning

First I would like you to do a Back Up of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software if possible

This can be downloaded for free from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/

After the Back Up is complete I need you to unplug your PlayBook and then push and hold down the Power Button until the unit Force Powers Off.

Now, while Desktop Software is still open on your computer and the PlayBook Powered Off, Connect the PlayBook to your computer.

You should see and error screen from Desktop Software pop up that has the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.

QUICKLY choose the Update option.

This will erase all the information off of your PlayBook and Re-Write the Software back onto it. Once it's complete your PlayBook will need to go back through the setup wizard, and you can then perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your information. The only thing that won't come back after the restore are the apps that you downloaded from App World but they can be easily Re-Installed using the My World feature in App World.

Re: Playbook won't boot after upgrade to v2

I appreciate the feedback.  I followed your instructions.  I even was on the phone with their support department walking through.  That didn't work either.  I instead let it run until the battery died.

When it came back up, it restarted a fresh setup.  I got on wifi.  Answered the setup questions.  It asked me to download 27MB of additional files needed to continue, which I did.  And now it's back the damned splash screen. 20 minutes and counting.

So again, I'm thinkin' "$300 brick."

it has a 1 year warranty, mabe if you get it to come back again, do a security wipe first then upgrade the OS.

Re: Playbook won't boot after upgrade to v2

Still stuck. But all the OS services seem to be working, including file sharing. Time to make a belated backup, and then maybe a factory restore.

Re: Playbook won't boot after upgrade to v2

I actually got it to come back up, but each time it reboots (like when I finally got it working), it sticks again until I drain the battery entirely.

Re: Playbook won't boot after upgrade to v2

Bonjour AndrosMorin,

(hi, you're writing in French, few people here can speak French, so you may have not speedy answers. )

1.

tu as droit à un support BlackBerry en allant sur la page de BlackBerry France, puis Tablette puis assistance. Cela devrait t'amener sur la page suivante:

http://fr.blackberry.com/playbook-tablet/overview.jsp#!playbook-support

tu mets le numéro de série de ton PlayBook et ensuite tu pourras communiquer par email avec un technicien BlackBerry.

et sinon il y a un numéro de téléphone pour la France : 0800 914 533.

(go to the French PlayBook website and contact the support)

2.

Je ne connais pas comware.

(I do not know that comware company)

Je t'encourage à contacter le service d'assistance. Dis-nous comment ça se passe. Si ça ne passe pas, j'essaierai de passer du temps avec toi ce week-end.

(I advise you to contact the support. If this does not solve your issue, you and I will work that out this week-end).

Re: Playbook won't boot after upgrade to v2

I bought my used Playbook a few weeks ago and all was well for a couple of weeks until I did the OS upgrade.  I now have the problem that it won't boot past the splash screen as described here and on several other forums.  I have tried 5 times to do a repair via Desktop which appears to work except for a message about not connecting after the reboot but I think this may be spurious.  The other message is that it was unable to find any saved applications which is not surprising as I haven't saved any.

I have spent two weeks searching the forums, and experimenting with stack charging and repair installs and nothing has worked yet.  Does anyone have a definitive solution for this problem yet?
