I've tried 2 different playbooks with 2 different computers, 2 different cables but will not connect to Blackberry Desktop Software.
Keeps coming back with "Unknown Device" and "Blackberry Desktop Software cannot communicate with the connected device" . No problem connecting my Blackberry 9700.
Updated all software releases. One computer running 64 Bit Windows 7, other running 32 bit Windows Vista.
Nothing works. Can connect to Playbook via Network Manager and no problem transfering files. Why won't Desktop Software work?

Are you running Desktop Manager 6.0.2 or better?

Almost same here. New 64 GB model. Wireless Ok. Thethered to BB OK.
Plug in USB cable and Playbook says it is connected to computer. Desktop manager runs automatically. Desktop manager says it can not communicate with connected device. Tried on laptop and desktop, both Win 7, 32 bit. No go.
Playbook has latest firmware, and Desktop manager is 6.0.2.
Very frustrating, can't move any content.

Disconnect PlayBook from computer.
Close Desktop Manager
Bring up settings on PlayBook, under the Storage & Sharing menu, turn off WiFi Sharing.
Reconnect & retry

I've had all these issues, spent about 10 hours on it so far, nearly threw it out the window. Bridge works fine etc.. but when connected to desktop (latest version), says connceted but when you hit the media tab, it says not connected .
What did work for me was using my MAC - again, the desktop SW says it cannot connect, but my mac can see the the playbook as a networked drive and i can move some files that way - but its not a long term solution as i dont travel with a mac.
