Hi again,
Ok, here is the solution to my problems syncing BB PlayBook and solved after a few support calls from RIM.
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium and "Client for Microsoft Network" was missing in the Properties under Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, Local Area Connections. If yours is missing as well, click Install and it will pop up.
Good luck,
Bob
PS. BB support were excellent help and tenacious in finding the problem.

Ok i am running XP at work and I was able to connect to the desktop manager after running an update also able to access PB in explorer view for file sharing... Home computer another issue - running Vista - after unistalling desktop manager and reinstalling still same issue PB not able to connect. Turned off WiFi as suggested in many posts above and then prompted for PB password and synced right away and I can now access through explorer view. A bit of a pain but it works..
hope this helps

Got the same problem like you, tried all remedies posted here and other forums running windows7 ultimate.
Picked up the playbook last Tuesday and spent more time trying to sync than using the PB.
Got a 14 day window to return for refund and probably will go that route.
From reading forums it's been a long standing issue, you would think they should of figured out a fix bye now.
Guess support for the PB isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Update. decided to install Windows 8 Developer Preview on my netbook for fun.
Installed the blackberry desktop software and everything showed up first shot.
Can backup, sycn music, pics and video even shows up as a drive now.
Only thing I had to do was shut the wifi off.
Now got the new toy to play with and windows 8 to test also.

I had this problem when I picked up my PB. Spent several hours trying to figure it out. Finally got a solution. Try turning off the wifi and the bluetooth before plugging in the USB cable. Works for me every time.

So try just turning off wifi and reconnecting.
I hope this helps.
