Recently purchased a Playbook and spent several hours trying to get it to connect to my PC running XP.
Loooong story short. I did managne to get it to sync. Here is what I learned on this frustrating adventure.
All the tips/tricks in the above thread have to be met before it will work.
1) Bluetooth & Wifi Need to be off.
2) Under Storage & Sharing...
a) set USB Connections to Windows or Mac (NOT Auto)
b) Turn File Sharing ON
c) Wi-Fi Sharing OFF
3) On your PC (This was the most frustrating part for me) most people don't need to do this because the settings are already met, but it is a setting requirement that must be met before it will connect.
Under Control Panel / Network Connetions.
a) On your LAN (Local Area Network) Right click and select "Properties"
b) Make sure all the boxes are checked. Especially "Client for Microsoft Networks"
c) save the settings and it should connect.
As soon as I checked the box and saved, my Playbook was still connected, the Desktop Manager instantly identified it and all was Good-To-Go.
Hope this helps....

Didn't read all the way through but make sure wifi is off before you sync with bb desktop manager. If you are just trying to get video off then leave wifi on, make sure wifi sharing is on and that you are connected to the same network as the pc, and go to start on you computer and type in the ip address of your playbook. For example mine is \\192.168.0.84.
That should let you browse the memory of your pb and copy/paste your video.

File Sharing with a Windows® PC via USB connection
To share files between a Windows based PC and the BlackBerry PlayBook, BlackBerry® Device Manager will need to be installed. Complete the following steps to install BlackBerry Device Manager:
