Re: Rapid charger not charging. Gives a symbol that it is though.

I have also been having trouble with the rapid charger.

Lightning bolt symbol appears, but the battery does not charge.

Sometimes flipping the connector the other way would make it work (it is a BI connector, it can go either way).

I fixed it yesterday.

Sprayed some Electronic contact cleaner on both the PB connector and the charger connector. It is back to working first time every time, connected either way around.

[ Edited ]

There are 3 contact pins on the magnetic charger (which pins do what I have no idea [ie, +, -, ground] but they all need to be firmly connected to make the circuit complete. I press fairly firmly after the magnet snaps hold just to ensure proper connection.

In the past I have experienced the PlayBook's software thinking it was connected but no actual charging was taking place. I saw a yellow lightning bolt and everything but the battery level was decreasing at the same time. It wasn't until I pressed on the mag charger head to ensure proper contacts to the pins did I see the battery level start to increase. I now bring up the battery indicator on screen when I connect my mag charger so I can indeed see power levels increase before I walk away. Then I let the screen auto time out to off. That way I don't lull myself into thinking its charging and then come back to a dead PlayBook sometime later.

Also, make sure your pins are all straight and in a downward position to ensure proper contact.
