Screen Keeps Dying - Tried Hard Reset and Factory Reset

I have a playbook which I recieved last spring and lately it has been giving me a lot of problems with the screen.

Starting around early December, the screen would not turn on after it had gone to sleep unless I pressed the power button on and off a couple times. Then, a few weeks later, that trick stopped working. I tried doing a hard reset where you hold down the power button and volume keys until it forces a hard reset. That worked a couple times also, then stopped working around the end of December.

Two days ago I did a factory reset by reinstalling the firmware. The device worked for a while, but today it is back to its same old problems.

I should note that when I say "the screen didn't turn on" in almost every circumstance, the backlight would turn on and a few pale lines would be displayed on the screen.

Is my playbook completely dead? Does anyone have any ideas what else I could do?

is it still under warranty? if not your dead in the water

try downgrading the OS and see if that works

How do you downgrade OS on a playbook?

Try doing a search on this forum or on Crackberry.com. There was a procedure written on downgrading the OS.

Yes I know, I wanted Johnpiz to explain the suggestion. You have to root the Playbook and render the warranty void, break the agreement you made, and risk bricking the Playbook. Not advised in this forum any more than recommending jailbreaking on the Apple support forum.

And it will not fix the problem either.

OK on the face of it, doesn't need to be rooted that way, though it is a bt of a duck-shoot in the timing of the file swaps...

But will it fix a dying screen when well over a million users don't get a dying screen from 2.1 updates?
