It is precisely because he is "well respected" that's why I wrote these blunt comments --- he should have known better.

Piffle.  Don't ever join the United Nations, we'll all be doomed.

The vast majority of the time, auto channel hopping will be a lot better than the end user picking channel 1 or 6 or 11.  You are starting a thread to help people, don't give them the incorrect information --- just becasue your specific router, specific router firmware and specific neighbour geographic situation doesn't work for you.  I live in a high rise condo with at least 20 wifi networks near me --- picking a specific channel is inappropriate.  You are trying to give general advice, don't give them a false sense of security by picking channel 11.

Do you have stats that say that "auto channel hopping will be a lot better" ?

In France, the provider of 40% of Wifi routers says in its FAQ that one of the solution to solve WiFi connection issue is to... specify a channel manually.

I did a few duckduckgo searches and most recommended to turn auto channel hopping off.

Re: Speed up BlackBerry Wi-Fi connections a knottyrope tip

Conventional wisdom says that they put a lot of smarts in the router firmware to channel hop when they face interference.  Right now my wifi router is on channel 11 --- not because I manually picked channel 11, but because the router picked channel 11.

Re: Speed up BlackBerry Wi-Fi connections a knottyrope tip

We have x3 PB `s now !

I am used to living with kids and playbooks !

On one of the PB the wifi is very weak --- i have to be within 6 ft of the router.

It is not the router at fault as the other devices work fine.

I also have tried the PB in my work router and it has the same problem.

So it seems to be the PB not a router setup.

Any ideas? please?

Re: Speed up BlackBerry Wi-Fi connections a knottyrope tip

can try an OS reload and if that dont fix it then it might be a faulty unit

First I would like you to do a Back Up of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software.

This can be downloaded for free from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/

After the Back Up is complete I need you to unplug your PlayBook and then push and hold down the Power Button until the unit Force Powers Off.

Now, while Desktop Software is still open on your computer and the PlayBook Powered Off, Connect the PlayBook to your computer.

You should see and error screen from Desktop Software pop up that has the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.

QUICKLY choose the Update option.

This will erase all the information off of your PlayBook and Re-Write the Software back onto it. Once it's complete your PlayBook will need to go back through the setup wizard, and you can then perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your information. The only thing that won't come back after the restore are the apps that you downloaded from App World but they can be easily Re-Installed using the My World feature in App World.
