USB Support

Hello

I was just wondering if any one from RIM reads throught these posts.

I really enjoy using my Playbook, it is my first RIM product.

One feature that would make it perfect would be USB support. I would love to be able to tranfer pictures from digital camera to my Playbook.

Does any one else have the same opinion ?

Maybe we could get a petetion started.

Thank you

Re: USB Support

I think eventually somebody will write an app to do just that. It's a new product and these apps will take time. Put out the idea and some talented programmer will write it. The PB has great potential.

Re: USB Support

An app would be great!!

I've seen a video of a rooted Playbook with USB support so it is possible.

Cheers

Re: USB Support

I know for a fact that they read the solution or work around that other posters actually wrote.

Re: USB Support

That's reassuring that they've looked at it.

Thanks for sharing that.

Re: USB Support

I would sign that petition.  Importing photos from camera is one of the main reasons I bought a tablet and I assumed USB was USB so was a bit disappointed when I found that USB OTG is what is needed and PB doesn't have it.  I too have seen the "rooting" posts and making USB OTG work but they all seem to be written by and for software experts.

It appears that Samsung tablets may have this - they claim the only tablet that does - and there are a bunch of after-market options for adding the capability to iPad.

Re: USB Support

OH YES I AGREE! I PURCHASED IT WITHOUT REALIZING THAT THERE WAS NO REGULAR SIZED USB PORT AND THEN I WAS BUMMED AND ALMOST TOOK IT BACK BUT DECIDED NOT TOO. I LIKE TO PLAYBOOK ALOT BUT WISH THERE WAS A USB PORT.

Re: USB Support

It just seems like a feature that should have been included in the update. Maybe in the next update, hopefully lol

The playbook would be the best tablet with USB support imho lol

I'll see about getting the petition started.

Re: USB Support

I almost took mine back too but have really enjoyed using it. It's my first non apple product in a long time lol

Hopefully RIM will include USB support in the next update.

Would you sign the petition?

Re: USB Support

What I saw on the video of the rooted playbook that got USB OTG working was the stopping and starting of a driver process for USB with different command line options - so in my view. The capability is already there, just not turned up.  QNX Neutrino supports USB no problem so it would follow that if this hardware is capable, the OS is capable.  It did require an adapter cable and the playbook would not be able to power devices such as external hard drives.

There must be reasons such as security etc delaying this turning up - because I think the device has a pretty high certification for security

Maybe someone from RIM could comment, correct and clarify...especially if I am way off base...
