Almost 6 hours....I don't see a cancel tab..so when you say disconnect...just unplug the cord from the laptop?
What are the chances the Playbook may not operate and my chances of getting it working again if that is the case?
Forever is 6 hours or more...lol

I unplugged it and the Playbook was fine. It did update on it's own, not attached to anything. i'm guessing the Desktop Manager had a glitch.
