My apologies for having read through all 45+ post in this thread then forgetting information that was in one of your post. In re-reviewing all post I now see that your PlayBook IS working as intended on your home computer. So, again, is it possible that the problem lies not within RIM or its product, but instead in your work computer and the way you have it configured?
According to your posting it would appear you are still running v6 of Device Manager on both computers? Can you simply copy the installer from the PB when connected to your home computer then use that to update your laptop?
At bthe risk of sounding rude, you had led me down a wild goose chase with your comments about updating to ver 7 of Device Manager. When the new drivers are installed, PB lists them as ver 7. However, if you check the ABOUT tab in Device Manager, you'll notice that the Blackberry Device Manager is ver 6.0.0,44 or possibly 6.0.0.47.
Could you confirm by looking at your own copy and verifying.

with all due respect, did you read my previous post of my treatment of device install problem or any other's successful usb connection?
Uninstall, reset, nor copying will help.. the updated PB has the device driver setup you can use
Pleae bear with me, here is my step by step suggestion. Hope it will help not just you but even those not so computer savvy
After upgrading the PB by whatever means
- disconnect PB usb connection, and optionally turn off WIFI(I only turned off blue tooth), reboot PB
-once rebooted, connect to your PC you have logged in but not running any apps except top of line security software from Symantec, Mcafee,...
- the PB will display a message telling to use windows explorer or apple's finder to look for the installation file
- open windows explorer, look for a CD Drive with the label like Blackbery Playbook
- if you can't find such drive
- open the CD drive
- runas admin the file BlackBerryDeviceManager.exe
- respond to all the subsequent prompts to let it install
- once installed, be sure to disconnect PB usb connection
-then reboot PC
- login pc as usual,
- connect your PB via usb and you should be able to find you PB from PC
if the aboe helps you, please clck the Like button so others can find it quicker

Your instruction is identical to the method followed (several times) - to no avail....
Maybe my frustrations are being vented inappropriately - just getting very annoyed in going around in circles in the hope that there is some wood amongst the trees . .

Interesting!?! Go in to the windows control panel and open up Programs adn Features (add/remove programs if you are running XP) Look for 'BlackBerry Device Manager'. What does it say there?
On mine, Win7 Enterprise 64-bit, it says 'BlackBerry Device Manager 7.0' version 7.0.0.40. Now, if I do as you asked and right click on the icon in the system tray and select properties then about, it tells me it is 6.0.0.44. A RIM slight of hand? Or did they simply fail to update the About data? Will have to check this on other systems as well.
Good catch. ![]()

Hi, DJC...
does your work laptop have many drive letters?
if you and you can access the disk manager, please re-assign the BlackBerry CDROM drive letter
also would this laptop happend to oen those locked software control, if so, I guess you may need some admin that is in charge of such to help you.

Under normal log-on, yes there are numerous drive letters - previously the playbook mapped itself to V:\
I have spent many hours today logged in with Admin control uninstalling / reinstalling / rebooting etc...
Under Admin, I have 4 drives (which does not include z![]()

Technololgy is our friend...but sometimes we must sit on a merry-go-round for several rotations in hopes that someone will be able to pull us off. Then we can move on (of course it leaves us dizzy for awhile) ![]()

mine did not show Z drive either but I was able to locate the CD drom labeled BlackBerry PlayBook
so may I assume you wnete in as Admin using DIsk Manager and still fail to find the bb CD DRIVE?
how about use device manager and expand the DVD?CD-Rom drives? you hsould be able to see RIM PlayBook CD USB Device
failing that, please reread my othe step by step ost to see if there something minor that was missed. I know that is boring and frustrating but I don't know anyting else that can help
