WebEx: Has anyone heard of development / release dates?

One of the main things I seem to be missing on my Playbook tablet is the ability to view and interact with WebEx meetings - which are heavily used by my company.

Has anyone out there in the development world / RIM heard anything about whether WebEx will be coming to Playbook or of potential timing?

I haven't heard anything, but I sure wish they would make an app. I could really use this!

there is a webex app for BlackBerry smartphones with OS6 but not with OS7...
besides Cisco has released its own tablet that already has the WebEx app.

I am not so sure that Cisco wants to make the WebEx available to the PlayBook owners...

I am currently using the WebEx for BlackBerry app on my BB Curve; the thought was one of being able to take advantage of the Playbook's larger screen (PowerPoint slides are often difficult to see on the phone's small screen) and camera capabilities.

While I agree with your statement that Cisco may intend to limit the number of tablet devices that run it's software, they were quick to release a WebEx application for the iPad.  It strikes me that with the Playbook's largely corporate audience, it would be wise for RIM to push for this type of application development it's tablet.

I certainly understand that there are other collaboration applications out there that have made their way to the Playbook (Adobe Connect, for example).  For those of us who work in corporations with hundreds or thousands of employees, however, WebEx is firmly rooted as a staple business meeting tool.

Re: WebEx: Has anyone heard of development / release dates?

I have to agree here as I do not have the ability to use WebEx on my phone and was one of the reasons I purchased the PlayBook.  To have to wait for any word from RIM regarding both the use of either Skype or WebEx to assist in using the PB for business communications is very painful and questions my choice of the PB.  I cannot use the PlayBooks video feature for anything in support of my job.

Don't exactly know what forward thinking, arrangements, marketing intel, or other that went into this before the release of the PlayBook.  But I for one would welcome a resolution to this issue ASAP or at least some definitive word yes/no regarding this question.

I really don't understand why people keep waiting for a move from RIM about Skype, WebEx or even Netflix. You should contact the software editor, not the OS provider. Just like when Windows 7 was released, you expected all software editors to release versions of their apps compatible with Win7. Nobody waited anything from Microsoft. And today nobody should be waiting for anything from RIM for those issues.

One reason would be that RIM has (clout, juice, industry presence, product) that they can leverage to get things done that benifit their product and support their many users. If done and they get no where then let the users know and pressure would then come from another direction.

Re: WebEx: Has anyone heard of development / release dates?

That's correct.  Yes, it's up to Cisco to develop the application for its customers, but that development would come much faster if RIM would add pressure to get it moving.  I doubt Cisco developed the iPad app as quickly as they did because WebEx customers were clamoring for it - more likely that Apple demanded its availability (this is speculation on my part).

In either event, the point of my OP was to learn of any release information on WebEx for Playbook (if there was any to learn of).  While others have shared a desire for the application, it doesn't appear that there's anything in the works...
