Re: Windows 8 - Print to go - Complete failure

It won't print from any thing - eg web page  so Open Office won't

Well you have tried everything. At this point I would be reaching for the shotgun. Fire a few rounds into it. Show it who is boss.

[ Edited ]

The software intallation is 1.0.161.0 wheras the driver it installs is 1.0.141.0   Any clues as to why this is?

I can uninstall the drivers no problem

Reinstalling  puts the previoous drivers inprintmanagment.png

There may be a simple answer to this question.  The new software version may use the 'old' driver. This is not unusual.  There are some folks who reported working OK with Win8 above. Ask them what their driver version is.

Why bother with all this grief? Just email the documents to yourself and open the email in playbook.

Or use file sharing if you are on the same router.

Re: Windows 8 - Print to go - Complete failure

Well... I managed to get it to work but the PC then would not recognise the playbook  - although the device manager said it was connected  I couldn't see it in the file directory and then Blackberry Desktop recognised it but could not connect to it.

At this stage I  felt I had tried Windows 8 out enough. The functionality is poor and I hate  the way it has been put together. It is certainly a step backwards if you don't have a touch screen. I have a laptop with a touch screen and Windows 8 is going nowhere near it..

I reverted to Windows 7 .... it was a lengthy process not least because MS have made it imposssible by changing the formating of the hard drive when you upgrade, so it was a case of reinstall from scratch having backed everything up.

Guess what?  Everything works perfectly.

So I am going to accept it as a solution and I think the error is with MS Windows 8 which I hate

Thank you to all of you who posted.

I wonder if I can get my money back?.......

Pete

Re: Windows 8 - Print to go - Complete failure

Congratulations for having the patients to work through this and find a solution.  Still it would be interesting to know how other Win8 users report it works OK. I gather you had an upgrade, not a new install. I recall MS had problems with differences between upgrade and full, new install of - I believe Vista. Some functions, features did not work on the upgrade version of the OS.

The issue is that all new PCs will be shipped with Win8 shortly if not already. This could be a problem for PlayBook users upgrading their PCs.  I.e.. I am a perfect candidate.
