neither the device manager nor the desktop manager seem to recognize the playbook anymore.
z: does not show up in windows explorer - I'm not getting prompted for playbook pw on the pc
the desktop manager is showing me an option to reset the device and is prompting me to reload the Tablet OS.
this is not sounding promising. i'm afraid it might have already wiped my playbook as - while it is still connected to the pc - I can no longer turn the playbook back on.
Any ideas folks?

you should try to uninstall and reinstall the desktop manager(also try to get the latest version). This could be helpfull with your issue, and its better than a security wiped, thats is the last thing youy should try.

Thanks for suggestion, TenNights.
So I backed out from that prompt to install tablet os, and then all of a sudden the playbook got connected. I was prompted for the pw on the pc, the z: drive showed up, and desktop mgr also was able to connect to the playbook.
