All updates should be done plugged into the wall charger..worst thing in the world is for the PB to run out of power while doing an update...there are many threads on here about PB wont start..drained battery etc..
I doubt its finished. It may have not completly powered off, can you see if the backlight is still on? Holding it on an angle in a dim light the screen should be totaly black if the unit is off. Hold down the power button and the + sign button at the same time until the red led light lights up, then release.
