playbook sitting with pretty colours

[ Edited ]

Hi I tried this method- after clicking update it asked me if i wanted to repair, i said yes but then the system reported that there was no new updates available.

since then the playbook has been sitting with pretty colours and blackberry playbook on it's screen- but nothing seems to be happening.

I was trying to restore icons that i had removed from the dock- when i tried to dragg them back i got an error array_insert invalid array index.

Has it less than a day and fear i know have an expensive paperweight :-(

Re: missing icons

I followed a link with some sage advice.  I had lost icons from my favorites bar.  Not email accounts but the actual mail program was MIA.  Same with app world and a few others.  They were still installed but I couldn't initiate them.  Answer: drag all icons to my favorites bar causing it them to disappear one by one until I had no icons left on my device.  Then, restart the device. All my programs are back, just not organized in subfolders.  Small price to pay.  Hope this helps.

Re: missing icons

Hey andysm

That's actually a different topic than this.

For you, connect to your wall outlet charger and press and hold the power key for 20 seconds. You should force a reboot on the Playbook.

Let us know.

Meanwhile, I'll ask the moderators to move this to a dedicated thread.

Re: missing icons

Excellent i now have a working playbook again-thanks!!

But still the original problem remains- i moved the icons off the dock area and into the main home screens- now when i try and move any icon back to the dock i get an error message

array_insert invalid array index

and the icon is deleted- i no longer have a browser icon so have to launch the internet via  a bookmark- any method to restore icons and to put them back into the dock area would be great!!

Re: playbook sitting with pretty colours

I have a compareable issue. Last week I upgraded my Playbook to the lastest version of the 2.1 OS.

Today my Playbook powered off because of low battery. I charged it but since then I won't complete the boot sequence. It goes to the pretty colours en then shuts down. Sometimes after 1 min, sometimes after 3-4 minutes.

Pressing the on/off button 20s  doesn't solve it, even when connected with the supplied wall charger.

Re: playbook sitting with pretty colours

Sounds like a debrick may be required. I doubt if you will be able to save any data not yet backed up

Debrick...

Make sure you know your Blackberry ID and password.
You need a computer with a good internet connection.
If you can, backup important data. Preferably by wifi share drag n drop as well as desktop backup.
Turn Playbook right off (i.e. Shut Down)
Ensure you have the latest Blackberry Desktop Software to your PC or Mac and start it up
Connect the Playbook by USB cable.
If the red light starts to glow press the Off button.
Because Playbook is off you will get an error message basically saying Retry or Update  (on Mac it says repair rather than Update)
Quickly select the Update (or repair) option
The Playbook will start to get a new OS that will take a good hour to download via the PC
Follow the registration process using your current Blackberry ID
(at this point test your problem again)
Add back your email accounts etc.
Reinstall your apps from App World, My World.
Copy back your data.
(test your problem again)

You may lose data permanently!

Re: playbook sitting with pretty colours

I tried the debrick, but unfortunately it did not solve the problem. At the reboot step, I got the message that it was unable to connect to the device. Hitted retry, but without effect.

When plugging in power for the Playbook the red led lights up for about 10s, then the green one for 10s and then nothing happens for a while. Then the boot sequence initiates and suddenly ends after a few minutes.

Re: playbook sitting with pretty colours

And, when it ends, it results in this colored screen with the BlackBerry logo?

Re: playbook sitting with pretty colours

OK, then you either need to:

  1. Call your Playbook support number for assistance or warranty support, or
  2. Follow the Debrick procedure again.
