Re: playbook wifi connection issues

testing "quick reply" as i don't really know the difference.
a couple points:
1. as i said before, PB should not have an issue with N. if so i hope this has been resolved with OS 2. some are saying it works fine with tbeir N routers but its not always clear if their routers are set to mixed b/g/n which confuses which protocol the pb is actually using.
2. problems with email being received quickly or slowly can sometimes be resolved by pairing like services. meaning, if you use a rogers service (my bb is rogers) then yahoo is a good email service (in my opinion the best one anyway). yahoo and rogers are now the same company. yahoo/rogers have a dedicated blackberry server. yahoo mail is immediate on a rogers bb. hotmail and blackberry don't work as well. there have been posts on the internet about incompatibilities between windows live and hotmail. most significant are problems sending bb calendar info through hotmail addresses. i'm sure hotmail works great on windows phones. if you have a local isp, then you should know already that these are not polled constantly.
3. thanks to whoever fixed the page navigation on this site. the stupid pull-down page # navigation has been replaced by a nice logical and easy system. thanks!!!

Re: playbook wifi connection issues

Davidbaldwin.

Correction: Rogers / Yahoo are not the same company.

Rogers is a Canadian Company whilst Yahoo is USA.

Rogers licensed Yahoo email from Yahoo much like Sympatico licensed Hotmail/Windows Live Mail from MSN.w

Re: playbook wifi connection issues

Yes I stand corrected, no argument there.

From Wikipedia: In 2004, Rogers partnered with Yahoo! to offer Rogers Yahoo! Hi-Speed Internet to its members.

As of January 2012[update], Rogers Mail accounts continue to be provided by Yahoo!

My under-researched point was it's like they're the same because Yahoo Mail to a Rogers BlackBerry is actually faster than Yahoo Mail to a Yahoo.com account. Yes, it's on the BB before it's showing up at Yahoo.com. Neat trick.

Re: playbook wifi connection issues

Maybe Yahoo is using different servers along a different path for Rogers. The Yahoo side is browser based access only and may be a lot bigger with a lot more to handle. Its probably a lot more complicated the what it appears to be.

Re: playbook wifi connection issues

Hi,

I'd like to report my findings on the wifi connection issue.

Situation was: frequent and full breakdown of data rate, turning wifi on/off giving only a short time remedy.

I then turned off WMM in my router, and the problem was solved. Router is currently running in mixed n/g mode (n/a for the 5 GHz band).

BTW, the issue was also solved by turning off wireless-n, but that's something I would not do for just the PB broken firmware.) It also seemed to get better if the PB was forced on the 5 GHz band, but I did not go further into this.

Now for the first time I can somewhat have a proper experience of the browser... still having trouble with the thing diving into links only on the second keypress, but that's minor.

Setup: PB OS 2.0.0.7971

Router: Netgear WNDAP 350 (the "pro" stuff) with WPA2-PSK security.

Regards, MM

Re: playbook wifi connection issues

What worked for me:

Delete the saved connection.  Restart. Use WPS, luckyly my router has this feature.  Got connected.

But I spent almost an hour deciding to continue trying or just throw my PB to the garbish.  I hope RIM works this out, my old 9300 connects to almost anything and never had a trouble with wifi.

Hope this helps someone!

Re: playbook wifi connection issues

So to repeat my findings,

for me it helped to play with the "Wi-Fi Multimedia" (WMM) settings of my access point.

Currently, I have configured WMM "on" and WMM-Powersave "off". Both set "on" gave the problems mentioned, this one is fine for me.

If your router / access point does not support such a setting, there is nothing I can help you :-(

Best regards, MM.

Re: playbook wifi connection issues

I think that's definitely true, that BlackBerry has specific servers just serving the Rogers and/or Yahoo mail. It's fast, virtually instant IMAP. I'm very pleased with the BlackBerry/Yahoo combo.

Re: playbook wifi connection issues

If the router is using wep (which it might) when connecting, click on advanced and change connection mode from wpa2 to wep then enter password
