I have a client that has been running BES Express 4.1.3.16 on an XP box for several years. It connected to an SBS 2003 Server running Exchange. We just set up a new server for them (another SBS03- had to stay with it for apps) and we want to install BPS on the new server.
So my questions are, how do I download BPS, since they already have an SRP ID, etc.? I know they always assign you one when you download it, right?
Also, since it is a new Exchange install (new Windows domain, etc.) shouldn't I be doing this as a fresh new install anyway? Only 6 users, so no big deal to blow away their BB,s and reactivate. No need for a knife edge here unless there's something more it can do for me (right?)?
So... where do I go from here???
Thanks!

You want to upgrade to BPS to keep the old SBE CALs
New domain in same forest?
If new forest then new install would be needed

Hi- thanks for replying! Yes, new forest, new install, new everything from scratch (originally tried as swing migration, but that's a discussion for another day- LOL!). I still have the old servers running and available (both the BES Exp on XP, and the original SBS03 server).
Are you saying install the old version on the new SBS03, then upgrade it in place? Or can I just install new BPS and reinstall the old cals? I have all of them, as well as original SRP, etc.

you have to upgrade the CAls first in the SBE insatll IIRC. then you can export them out and add into the new BPS.

after your upgrade
From command-line, you can do the following:
bcp "select LicenseKey from BESMgmt.dbo.LicenseKeys where type = 0" queryout c:\licensekeys.txt -c -T -R -E -Sdbservername
That will export all installed license keys to the text file specified in the command. Just be sure to change dbservername to your SQL/MSDE server. This needs to be run from a server/machine that has bcp.exe installed, though (installed by default with SQL and MSDE installations).

Please explain "upgrade the cals". Running this utility upgrades them from one version to another?? Remember- I can and probably will be in essence reinstalling from scratch on the new server- I don't need to do a knife edge. I can easily wipe handhelds and reactivate all- there's only 6.
Also, like I asked above- can I just download the new BPS, and enter in my existing SRP ID and authentication key? I doin't understand what you mean by "after my upgrade".
Thanks for the patience- I've installed several BES Exp & BPS from scratch, but never have had this scenario before.

the CALs are knot compatable between the two.
upgrade SBE to BPS and export the cals
then install BPS with exported cals added in, then activate users.
they wont notice much.

Gaining.... or so it seems. Ran the update to BPS on the original Bes. All seems OK. Ran the command to copy cals- it did, but they are the same as the original numbers- maybe that's normal.
Now, went to install 4.14 on the new Server (SBS03) all goes well until database creation- then I get " Database server not found. Verify the product information". It has both SQL 2005 Express (Installed by Backup exec) and SQL 2008 Express (installed by accounting app).
How do I either create the DB or a named instance, or whatever I need? Do I actually need to backup the old MSDE database, since this is a fresh install, new domain, new Exchange, etc.? (FQDN for email is still the same- mx record, etc.) I have all SRP and authentication info copied from the original install. Old BES BB services are shut down, etc.
