I was thinking there might some 'hook' in Exchange installed by BPS that may need to be removed.

There are no hooks to exchange, just permissisons on the BESAdmin service account.

Dear all
I would move from BES 4.1.7.17 to latest BES Express version.
Current configuration:
BES 4.1.7.17 running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 32 bit
15 users
database SQL Server 2000 SP3 on another server
Exchange Server 2007 SP1 on another server
Target configuration:
latest BESx version running on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit
16 users
database SQL Server 2005 SP3 on another server
Exchange Server 2007 SP1 on another server
Steps:
since I cannot use the transporter due to the old source database, I will proceede as follow:
- Install the lates BES express version on a new machine. The database will be new on SQL Server 2005
- Use the actual besadmin account to connect to Exchange Server 2007
- Both BES and BESx server can work simultaniously
- Add a new user to BESx and test if everything works
For each devices running on BES:
- delete user on BES
- wipe device
- add user on BESx assigning the device just wiped
The last operation should be the BES uninstallation.
Is it the correct way to proceede?
Thank You

Why do you say that? SP7 is supported.

Actually I took a look at Transporter 5.0.3 requirements, which should be the latest version available on the RIM site, and it does not support SQL Server 2000 as a source DB or target DB either.

Stop BES services and install SQL 2005 express and use transporter.
