Currently have an unpatched Exchange 2010 server with BES version 5.0.2.29 running on the same box. The BES writes to a SQL 2005 backend database on this same server. Yeah I know...this was setup before I came on board.
Ideally I would like to separate the BES and SQL from the Exchange server, which appears to be an option according to the documentation. Also if possible I would like to migrate the database to a local SQL 2008 Express install on the same new server dedicated for the BES.
Here are my issues:
Preupgrade tasks
Wait?...did I not do this already when the BES software was setup initially? Why would I do this again? I am missing something.
Also their discussion concerning upgrading the configuration database is also confusing for me. It seems they are assuming you have the database stored on a third server somewhere and not setup locally on the same BES box.
Is it possible to move the database as part of the upgrade process or am I trying to do too much at once. Hope my questions make sense.
Thanks for everyone's time.

KB03112 - How to move the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a new Microsoft SQL Server instance
then install BES Express on the new server pointing to the new location with the same BESAdmin service account meeting the prerequisites to install BES.
most of what you have done will not be needed again, just the local login permissions on the new server.
