Background:

Exchange Server 2010 SP 2  Version 14.2 (Build 247.5)

SQL 2008 R2 running Windows 2008 R2 hosting the BESExpressConfiguration Database

Windows 2008 R2 Server hosting BES Express Software version 5.0.2.29

We are trying to upgrade to BESx SP4

We get thru the inital upgrade, and perform the reboot as directed.

After the reboot the installation continues and asks for a CAL Key.  

We place our existing CAL key  in the field and click Next

Immediately we receive the following error

"Error as BAS Admin Settings container should already be loaded.  Exiting."

i click ok then the installation closes.

the services are unable to start at this point.

This is extremely frustrating as you may imagine.

Complete the following steps to delete the registry key that is causing the issue:

Note: Back up the registry before making any modifications.

1. Click Start > Run.
2. Type regedit.
3. Navigate to the following location depending on the version of Windows Server®:
   • If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
   • If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
4. Remove the Setup registry key.
5. Restart the setup.exe application and complete the installation.

i saw this in another forum so i removed the db entries

it still continually does the same thing

you are logged in as BESAdmin correct?

the SRP ID and CAL Key Fields should be filled out - what Database entries did you remove?

yes i am logged in as besadmin

i removed the registry settings above after i received the error

sorry i meant setup entries NOT database entries

Getting exactly the same problem whilst upgrading from SP3 to SP4 tried removing the registry settings but still the same.

We have a little bit of a different setup i guess that Blackberry doesnt test, because i was able to find another random post with the same setup.

My problems all arise from having my database stored in an sql cluster thats using luns from our SAN for disk.

Here is what i did when i got the error:

1. Moved the BESExpress Database to a SQL server with local disk

2. Ran the Service Pack 4 installer on the BES server

3. During the install pointed the update to the new sql server location

4. after the database updated successfully i cancel the Service Pack Update.

5. I moved the database back to the Clustered Production SQL Servers

6. Re-Ran the Service Pack 4 installer on the BES Server

7. Basically it skipped the database upgrade (since it was already updated) then went the rest of the way with the install.

8. Upon Reboot and continued installation i got the BAS error mentioned in my previous post.

Here is what i did to fix it:

1. Restored my snapshot of the BES server

2. Moved the BESExpress Database to a SQL server with local disk

3. Ran the Service Pack 4 installer on the BES server

4. During the install pointed the update to the new sql server location

5. THIS TIME I LET THE INSTALLER RUN IN ITS ENTIRETY EVEN THOUGH THE DB WAS IN THE TEMP SQL SERVER.

6. REBOOTED AND INSTALLER STARTED AGAIN AND THEN FINISHED SUCCESSFULLY (HOWEVER IT WAS POINTING TO the DB ON THE WRONG SERVER)

7. So i stopped the bes services

8. I moved the database back to the Clustered Production SQL Servers

9. Re-Ran the Service Pack 4 installer on the BES Server

10. Pointed the installer to the (already updated) database on the production sql server

11. Ran the install as normal, Upon Reboot continued installation and everything finished successfully.
