Moving BES Express 5 to new server

Hi everyone, I know this has been asked a lot but I havent found a for sure answer.

Im looking for the easiest and best way to migrate bes users.

My Scenario;

I have an SBS 2003 box with exchange and BES Express 5 installed.

I am going to be installing a new SBS 2011 box with Exchange 2010 and then taking down the SBS 2003 box.

Whats the best way to move users over to the new box?

Get a new SRP and CAL and install on the new SBS 2011 box.  And then just migrate the users using the user transfer tool?

Please use plain text.

are you going to be in the same exchange org or be in a new one?

can both SBS server be run at same time? usually they cant.

transporter is used to move users over when both are running and in the same exchange org.

Re: Moving BES Express 5 to new server

I am doing an SBS wing migration so both servers can stay running for 21 days.

Yes they would be in the same organization.

then fire up the new server, install exchange and BES. then once its working (tested with one new BES user) use transporter to move users over and then move users to new mail server.

Re: Moving BES Express 5 to new server

I have a few more questions about how this goes down.

So I have my SBS 2003 (with exchange 2003) server with BES express 5.

During the swing migraiton to the new box with SBS 2011 (with exchange 2010)  I have to move the users mailboxes to the new box.

Should I install bes express 5 on the new sbs 2011 box and then migrate the mail boxes and then use the transport tool and migrate the users from bes?

Do you know if email will work if I dont migrate the bes users right away?

I cant really seem to find much documentation online about doing this because they are both SBS servers with exchange on them.  So there isnt a separate server running bes.

Re: Moving BES Express 5 to new server

I have never dealt with SBS moves.

there are quite a few posts on here you can go through.

I thought the exchange part was a one shot deal, not a gradual process.

Re: Moving BES Express 5 to new server

knotty, ive been doing reading and havent found much about migrating sbs with bes.

I found one post, but nobody had the solution posted.

If you had to take a shot, would you migrate exchange first or bes?

Re: Moving BES Express 5 to new server

I would move BES first and upgrade it to the lastest version with latest version of CDO
